Mystical Fiction

by Rhiannon Perry Alwine

Lush and warm, green and sweet, the scent of comfort that I had known since birth, brown with herb and spice, a presence ever present, that is what Horse smelled like to me.  And now, there they stood in front of my earth eyes, as close as the hint of breeze that brought their perfume my way.  I didn’t have to question from which world they came.  They came from between the worlds, just like me.

My confidence had paid off; my quest fulfilled.  The mare had indeed heard my prayer.  She had come with help in the form of this small band of equine angels, for to me that was what I beheld.  I had never been so flanked by them except in the closest reaches of my soul.  There were only three in all, the silver mare, a chestnut and a bay, though at first impression they could have been three hundred, so much did their energies impact my senses.  We melded and blended together and the world took on new form.  Our energy fields bounced off of one another in a kind greeting of welcome that told of a common language and respect.  They mirrored back to me my feeling of Horse.  I had come home.

Excerpt from Rhiannon Between the Worlds

A dog’s power is this; his touch is so deep,

That when he is gone, you cry and you weep,

And you wonder if you loved him as much as he loved you.

When he’s gone for good you begin to know that you knew,

That his love was from heaven.

He was like God come to earth.

The G and the D just got switched at his birth.

The footprints went round and around and about.

They went this way and that way and over and out.

Dundee kept his nose to the trail that they made.

The scent made him curious, so on it he stayed.

And then up ahead on the branch of a pine,

Sat the flash of red fur looking classically fine.

His eyes were the eyes of someone who knows,

That it’s fun to watch snowflakes from here

when it snows.

Around the base of the tree Dundee raced.

The red fur on the branch purred sweetly and paced.

He knew he was safe just where he was at.

He was nimble and balanced for he was a cat.
